Overview —
This was one of the first galleries to move from the traditional location of Cork Street to Clerkenwell and is located in a former printworks to the rear of the Guardian headquarters. The main entrance door is over sized to allow large scale art works and a secret hoist was incorporated into the entrance mat well to allow large exhibits into the basement. The design enabled 100% usable walls by concealing all services and heating within the floor. The three spaces comprise a side lit main gallery, a secondary space naturally lit with an old Victorian lantern and a predominantly artificially lit basement with natural light wells.
